I’m confused by Plies and his “hood accent” that disappears during interviews…you’re not sounding like much of a goon now, Algernod…(that’s Plies in the white hat, in case you couldn’t tell)

———————————————————————

I’m so happy for my favorite couple, Karl and Christina…they are FINALLY engaged! :-)

———————————————————————-

Why the hell were those 4 white guys walking around Little 5 Points yesterday afternoon looking like the were caught in an aluminum foil factory explosion?

“There was one thing I didn’t show, I love him and he doesn’t know…”

———————————————————————-

Man, I feel like I did WAY too much last night…I swear 2:30am came entirely too quickly. I guess that means we were having a good time with Tish and her crew. Praise the Lord for the guestroom at Decatur’s momma’s house!

———————————————————————-

I can’t believe I snapped like that while I was on the phone…I really didn’t mean for what I said, how I said it. I just blurted it out…but it DID make my point.

———————————————————————-

“This woman is growing weary of having to be so strong, of having to pretend I’m made of stone so I won’t end up with no broken bones. I can’t fight every battle alone…”

———————————————————————-

Going to work yesterday was totally pointless. A waste of gas even. I mean I’m not really complaining because I didn’t have to stay the entire day.

I really need to make some decisions soon. Time is ticking and I’m not…….

Wow! This is my 150th Post. I guess maybe it should’ve been about something of some substance, but no. LOL

I will say this — check out Gordon Gartrell Radio. Yes, that would be Gordon Gartrell of the classic episode of The Cosby Show where Denise makes Theo a “replica” of the hottest designer shirt. The site features links to podcasts from DJ Brainchild and Phonte from Little Brother’s. There’s good music as well as Phonte’s comments on everything from YouTube videos to the R. Kelly trial to Father’s Day. It’s pure entertainment and Phonte is a FOOL! LMAO

Anyhoo, I hope you all had a good weekend!

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers out there! Special shout outs go to my father Tom, my boy Decatur, Napoleon, Tierre, Chris, and father-to-be Ali!

Thanks to Babs, I can now call myself a gamer. Babs was asked to host a Girlfriend’s Guide to Gaming. You see, Nintendo is marketing the Nintendo DS Lite to women. (Check out the commercials with America Ferrara, Carrie Underwood and Liv Tyler!)

I just got home from the party. And I must say I HAD A BLAST! The party was held in Castleberry Hill in this cute little lofty building. There was free food and beverages, a group of fabulous ladies and the Nintendo DS Lite. It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, and it was something totally different and out of the norm for me. When I walked in, I was giving this cute bracelet, which was filled with charms from each activity area as the night went on — a checkered heart, yellow puzzle piece, a pink shoe, and a guitar pick. There were four different areas, each with a different game for us to test out. I started with Mario Kart DS. How much fun was that? Of course, it could’ve been extra fun because I kept winning! :-) Who knew I’d be so good at video games? I guess all those nights at Decatur’s house with his PS3, XBox360, Wii, and PSP have rubbed off on me! LOL

After kickin’ some ass on the race track, I headed over to the Brain Age area. To start off, I took a “test” to see what my brain age was. Apparently my brain age is 58. I was told that that was good and with some practice, I can bring that age down. (The goal brain age is 20.) It wasn’t a bad game, but I think that game will have to grow on me. You see, I’m dyslexic and there was a section of the “test” that involved memorizing a set of 25 numbers and then rewriting them in the same order. I think I may have gotten 4 numbers correct, needless to say, I have to work on that section.

After my dyslexia kicked in with the numbers, I decided it was time for me to switch to words. I headed to the Crosswords DS area. Man, this was my kind of game. There were 3 options within the game — crosswords, wordsearch and anagrams. I didn’t do any of the crosswords. I completed a few wordsearches and then decided to try my hand at the anagrams. I swear I could’ve sat there toying with the anagrams for hours. I love anagrams, and have played the anagram game on Decatur’s PSP plenty of times.

The final station was Guitar Hero: On Tour, which doesn’t come out until June 22nd, so we got a sneak peek. This was a fun game, well, once I figured out what the hell I was doing. At first, I was just making noise, but I was still jammin’ to the songs that you had to choose from. My two favorites were “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet and “All The Small Things” by blink-182.

It was great to meet some new ladies, especially Coop (I felt like I’ve known you forever though lol!) and reconnect with some ladies I haven’t see in a while. The funniest part of the whole evening was the fact that just about everyone had a nickname — it was either their blogosphere name or a nickname Babs gave to them personally (like me) — I think it threw off the ladies who were working the event for Nintendo.

OMG, I almost forgot the BEST part! We each got to take home our own DS Lite and a copy of Brain Age 2! You can’t beat a party with free food and drinks, fabulous company, AND free gifts! That equals a HAPPY ME! :-) Good times!

Thanks again Babs for the invite!

This has to be the greatest show EVER!  It debuted last night on TVLand.  It’s basically America’s Next Top Model for women over 35.  Take a look at a few of the contestants:

Tanya is a mother of FIVE!

I had NO IDEA she was 50 before she said it.  Even the judges were amazed at her age!

…but I’ll be damned if Romeo (aka Lil Romeo) ain’t lookin’ damn good these days!  Like I know I’ve mentioned my love for Hot Young Tenders previously, but they are just poppin’ up all over, I can’t help it!

The last few days have been really great for me. Friday morning, I took my car to get an oil change. I ended up not having to pay for it AND I got a free car wash. Friday afternoon, I got to leave work at 1:30pm just because my boss was in a good mood. Friday evening, I went to Coach Decatur’s championship little league game (which they won…however, I got pegged in the leg with a foul ball — that hurt like shit and left an ugly bruise.) Friday night, me, Decatur and Del partied the night away at MJQ (my new favorite spot!) and ran into my girl Ayana (who I hadn’t seen in months!) Saturday, I woke up leisurely, ran a few errands; then ended the night working at a club for some extra cash. Sunday, I woke up late and went to the movies with Decatur and T.

Why the hell were there so many big girls lettin’ it ALL hang out on Saturday night in the Underground?? I mean, I know it was hot, but damn! Can’t you keep something covered up or at least wear a bra?!?!

Bridezillas has to be the funniest show ever! Some of these brides need to be slapped! I can honestly say if I was in a bridal party where the bride thought she could talk to me any kind of way, I’d have to go off on the bride and then remove myself from the bridal party. I understand weddings can be stressful (especially the planning) but that’s no reason for these brides to verbally abuse their bridesmaids. Some of the things they say are super harsh.

I’m glad brran1 made it to the ATL safely.

The Strangers was so not realistic…at least in my world. Ain’t no way I’d be in some house in the middle of nowhere! And why the hell white folks gotta always go looking for shit?!?

Why the hell was it so frappin’ hot outside on Saturday? My car read 93 degrees at one point. I saw on the news that it’s going to be more of the same all week, plus scattered storms…argh!

Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter 3 is FIYAH! I’m especially lovin’ “Mr. Carter” with Jay Z and “A Milli” — CRAZY! Be sure to check it out when it drops on June 10th!

This bruise on my leg is really quite ugly and it hurts. I still don’t know how I got injured sitting in the damn stands…like I took one for the team LITERALLY. SMFBS!

AY! My swag is so ridiculous…S-W-A-G, my swag is MC Hammer cuz they can’t touch me!” Check my SWAG! If you’re on myspace, please add my people ATS Entertainment as a friend. Thanks!

Prince is the muthafukkin’ shit! I have recently acquired his complete discography from 1978 to 1999 and I’m addicted. BTW, Brran1 this is all your fault…that entry on the 15 greatest Prince songs put me in a Prince mood! (Can you believe Prince will be 50 on June 7th??)

I can honestly say that I’m at peace right now. Reconnecting with a friend that I had to let go made me realize that I’ve come a long way as a person. I don’t hold any of the things against her that led to the ending of our friendship in the first place. No, I won’t forget those issues because they helped shape the person that I am today. But at the same time, I’m not going to have it hanging over my head and allow that to push a genuinely good person (who has actually had my back, in a strange way, over the last 5 years even though we haven’t spoken) away. For the most part, things in my life are good. I have a great group of people around me who I know love me for me and will be there for me if I need them.

So it’s 3:17am and I’m just getting home.

It was my homegirl Paula’s birthday and she went to Twisted Taco and then to Sutra Lounge. It had been a long time since I’d seen her, so I decided to join her and her people. I’ll admit that I was a little nervous to hang out with some of the ladies that I used to be really close with, but that’s no longer the case. Luckily, for the majority of the ladies it felt just like old times.

Here’s where the Fabulosity comes in…

I’m big on fragrances (read: I like to smell good, especially when I go out somewhere.) I had recently run out of Dolce and Gabbana’s The One and I wanted to change my signature fragrance up. Unfortunately, I couldn’t decide between Sean John’s Unforgivable Woman and Kimora Lee Simmons’ Fabulosity, so I purchased both. Tonight I decided that I’d wear Fabulosity because, I’ll admit, I was actually feeling quite fab and was in a relatively good mood. I get to Twisted Taco around 10:30 and as I was getting my ID out, the two white guys at the door started hitting on me. (This should’ve been sign #1 that this was going to be an interesting night!) One guy was admiring my glasses and the other asked what scent I was wearing. I replied “Fabulosity” and he caressed my arm as I walked by and said “that you are!” I laughed the whole way upstairs to where the ladies were sitting. The ladies has signed up to do a couple of rounds of karaoke, which is always pure comedy especially when there are drinks involved!

After everyone paid their tabs, we headed to Sutra…but not before I took a picture of the birthday girl and some of her friends that were heading home. Somehow, Mr. Caressing White Guy found a way to walk by me and caress my back.

Once we get in Sutra, the Fabulosity kicked in once again…only this time, it was a group of 3 guys from Detroit who wanted me to “show all of them a good time.” I.think.not. One dude Funky Red would NOT leave me alone! He felt it necessary to try to get me to dance and when I resisted he insisted on giving me lap dances ALL.NIGHT.LONG. Finally after about an hour, he found a white girl who was ready to twerk for him. (Viva La White Girl! LMAO) Then his boy Moneybags decided he wanted to holla at a sista and wanted me to “show him a good time” as well. But I had to decline, for many reasons, but the main one was he came up to my armpit and was a little smelly like his boy Funky Red. The final Detroit Playa was Jersey (because he had on a Pistons’ jersey.) This dude was hi-larious! He was like “I only have 2 dance moves — the two-step and the snake” LMAO We were clownin’ and then he asked me “what perfume do you have on?” Once again I said “Fabulosity” and he replied “that’s sexxy. It’s you, it fits your swagger.” Word Jersey? I love it when people recognize my natural swagger!

As the lights came on in Sutra around 2:30am, I thought I was safe from Funky Red. But alas, I was wrong. (DOH!) Funky Red found me as we were walking out and proceeded to ask for my number so he could call me on his way back to his hotel so he “could make the night memorable for me.” Thanks, but no thanks. The night is memorable enough as it is, I don’t need yo funky ass tryin’ to give me “the business” any more than you already did during the 15 lapdances you gave me!

Damn you Kimora Lee Simmons and your smell-goods! Argh!

First thing in the morning, I’m off to Clearwater. Florida to visit my bestest friend Lo’Nique and my godson Malachi. I hope you all have a safe and fun filled weekend!

I feel like I’ve been slacking on my blogging in the last week. And I guess I have. There was so much going on last week, that I’m still not too sure what day it is….

I’m going to use this week to catch up on reading all of my favorite blogs, as well as post some stuff that’s been on my mind…and there’s a lot on my mind!

There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won’t anymore, and who always will. So don’t worry about people from your past, there’s a reason why they didn’t make it to your future.

Last night, I went to go see Iron Man (great movie BTW) and they showed a bunch of previews that really have me excited for the Summer Movie Season! Here are the ones that I’m looking forward to:

May 2

Go see it! NOW!

I love a good chick flick, and this looks funny enough to not be too sappy and depressing for me! LOL

May 9

I don’t even have words — I love when a cartoon or show from my childhood gets remade. I just hope that it’s not too computer-y.

May 22

I.LOVE.INDIANA.JONES. And Shia Lebouf is kinda hot…lol.

June 6

The previews look funny as hell and I think Adam Sandler is pretty damn hi-larious!

June 13

I know there was an Incredible Hulk remake a few years ago, but I didn’t want to see it. The Hulk was a cartoon or computer generated which made him look extra fake. After seeing the previews, I can say it looks like they have done a great job of making the Hulk look realistic when he “goes green.”

June 20

It’s Mike Myers in costume. What more do I have to say?

July 2

Another 4th of July weekend blockbuster. I don’t think Will will disappoint us. After all, he’s got a pretty good track record with holiday weekend bangers…

July 18

It’s Heath Ledger’s last movie. As much as I loved Jack Nicholson as the Joker, I’m interested to see how Heath does. Just from the previews, I can tell the Joker’s more psychotic in The Dark Knight and Heath scared me a tad bit in one of the scenes.

Other movies of note:

I didn’t see the first Hellboy, but after seeing the preview for part 2 I think I’m going to have to rent it to catch up to the story.

I absolutely loved The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, I think I watch it every time it comes on TV.

I can’t lie — I don’t even know what Step Brothers is about. LOL But how can you go wrong with Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly? Did you not see Talledega Nights? That has to be one of my favorite movies!

The Happening looks like it could be an interesting movie.

I know what you’re thinking — I don’t have Sex and the City up there. No, I didn’t forget it. Honestly I didn’t really watch the show, so I’m not so super excited about going to see the movie. But it comes out May 30th. Anyhoo, there are a bunch of other films coming out in the next 3 months, but these are the ones I can’t wait to see.

My cell phone is operating on bootleg right now and in order to pick up the phone I have to use a Bluetooth earpiece…it makes me feel stupid.

I’m hungry.

Now that’s gangsta, but not in a good way. We should all be worried — read here.

“All the girls standing in the line for the bathroom…”

I can’t wait til the Kanye/Lupe/N.E.R.D (I could do without Rihanna) concert on Sunday night!

“Yesterday I saw a big girl cry…”

Why didn’t I go to the management office to get $7 movie tickets before? They are so worth it!

I want some fun, new kicks. I might have to see what I can find online, that’s where all the funnest shoes are!

Man, I can’t believe Sash will be going to Paraguay for 2 years at the end of the month! I’m glad she’s coming down here to visit in a couple of weeks!

“Come on get up…”

I need to make a new mix to listen to in the car…hmm, what should I put on it?

Who knew that Lil Mama and Raven-Symoné’s albums would be good? In a teeny-bop way, of course.

Damn Bluetooth earpiece! GRR :-(

Tonight, April 30th from 5pm to 10pm, select Baskin-Robbins will be selling small single scoops of ice cream for 31¢ to honor America’s Firefighters!

Wow, so I feel like I haven’t slowed down enough to think in the last few days! I had no idea that I’d so busy and get so little sleep, but it was all worth it.

Thursday night, me and my homegirl Jay went to Sugarhill to see Estelle.

(Be sure to get her album on April 29th!) Her concert was hosted by John Legend AND he even performed two songs with her, including a wonderful version of Michael Jackson’s “I Can’t Help It” (one of my favorites.)

After the show, I went home and ended up talking on the phone with Decatur until 2:30am…needless to say, that was not a good idea since I get to work at 7am! I was struggling all day Friday. And then my homegirl DRyCuba called me asking me to work for her at Noir Lounge (SHAMELESS PLUG: If you are in Atlanta, check out 4Play Fridays at Noir Lounge. Free admission all night. Live band from 8pm to 11pm, DJ from 11pm to 3am) I finished up at Noir around 2:30am and since I had to meet the ladies of USD.A on Saturday morning at Camp Creek Marketplace, I decided to stay at Decatur’s house since it’s right down the street…that way I could sleep until the last possible minute before I had to get up and get ready. So as I’m walking back to my car, it started to drizzle. When I get to my car (that was parked in the driveway at my friend’s hair salon), I find a BMW parked illegally behind it. BASTARD! So now I have to go into the studio next to the salon and track down the owner of this POS vehicle! (To make a long story short, I pretty much went off on the people in the middle of a recording session, but at that point I didn’t give a damn!) I finally get to Decatur’s house, and what do we do? End up having a deep ass conversation until 6:30am! WTF??!!?!

My alarm went off WAY too early the next morning, but I was excited about the USD.A outing. Babs and I met KKAvenue and Cathy at the shopping center to carpool to Fairburn and meet Keyalus. The ladies and I had a blast at the Renaissance Festival! Check out the pictures:

| View Show | Create Your Own

After the Renaissance Festival, I was able to run home and catch a quick nap before heading to House Nightclub to work for DRyCuba again (Another SHAMELESS PLUG: Prophecy Events, Status Inc. and Flamingo Black present High Society Saturdays at House Nightclub in the Atlanta Underground!) I got home around 3:30am, and was up again at 10am Sunday. I spent the afternoon at Perimeter Mall with DRyCuba, but soon realized that I was still pretty tired because I got weak…the only thing that would cure me was a Glazin’ Raisin pretzel and a long nap!

I only have a couple of days to recharge because Friday morning I head home to DC for another busy weekend and my 10 year high school reunion…EEK!

OMG…I can’t believe I forgot to mention that there was a celebrity sighting at the Renaissance Festival!

I now present Lord Flavor Flav! LMAO

I was tagged by The True Urban Queen and the 2 Ditzy Broads AND pretty.hip. Since I was tagged twice three times, I guess that means that I have to do twice the work, doesn’t it? Dang nabit! (I ain’t doin’ another one!)

The rules are the following:
1. Link the person who has tagged you.
2. Mention the rules in your blog.
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.

  1. I can’t balance myself on my left leg.
  2. I don’t like when I’m not the first person to read a magazine that I bought.
  3. I think most things would taste better with either bacon or pepperoni, or both!
  4. I write with my left hand, but I do most everything else right-handed.
  5. I remember the birthdays of friends from elementary school.
  6. When I get home in the evening from work, I spend most of my time being a computer geek and watching Vh1 reality shows.
  7. I flip between Vh1Soul, MTVJams and MTVtr3s between the hours of 4pm and 8pm everyday.
  8. I’m addicted to finding the original songs that are sampled in hip hop songs.
  9. I talk to myself on occasion. I don’t usually answer back though.
  10. There are days when I want to be like Kimora Lee Simmons, only not so crazy.
  11. I can remember everything about a few people, but there are a couple of people that I can’t remember conversations we had 5 minutes ago…
  12. I think I could live on salads (with bacon of course!), York Peppermint Pattie ice cream from Baskin Robbins and fresh McDonald’s french fries…

Ok — FRM, Apollocreed, A.Tiara, Brran1, Coop, Eb, Alleged Ringleader, and Tiff, it’s your turn! YOU’RE IT!

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty darn good. Like most weekends, I don’t really make plans to do anything, I just go with the flow and see what my friends are up to. Friday afternoon, I got a call from Cris and she said that she and her boyfriend was going to MJQ. I’m not a fan of being the 3rd wheel but I was down to go, since every other time I’ve attempted to go there something comes up and never went. Also, I love going out with Cris because she’s all about having a good time. It was a blast, though I feel like I may have caught lung cancer because of all of the people smoking in the area where we were dancing. (I know you can’t “catch” lung cancer, but you weren’t around all the smoke…if you could smoke it, I think it was being smoked near us! lol)

I didn’t have anything planned for Saturday, so the fact that I ended up being busy all day was a shocker. Saturday afternoon Cris called to see if I wanted to hang out with her and her son Lil Dave. I love that little boy, and haven’t babysat him in a while so I couldn’t wait to see him. We went to The Container Store (one of my favorite stores in the world!), IKEA, and then to lunch at Californina Pizza Kitchen.

After dropping Cris and Dave back home, I called my boy Decatur to see what he was up to since I was closer to his side of town. Since he was just at the house chillin’ I decided to stop by and hang out. It just so happened that when I got to his house, his roommate Del was just getting back home. After hanging out for a while, we decided to go out for a while. We ended up going to House in the Underground at 1am. We get to House, bypass the long line and walk right in (gotta love knowing the right people!) We left House around 2:45am, but me and Decatur decided that we should check out this after-hours spot that wasn’t far from their house. First of all, I was glad that I was with two guys, this place was right off the highway, next door to a rundown (maybe even abandoned) motel. Not the place I’d want to be as a female, either by myself or with one of my homegirls in the middle of the night…can we say a horror movie waiting to happen?!? There were 10 people there, and they were the most bootleg people I’ve ever seen…needless to say we didn’t stay long! (Though after much discussion, me and Decatur think that it might get poppin’ around 5 or 6…but we weren’t trying to find out if our theory was true. LOL) When we got back to Decatur’s house, Del fell asleep within 5 minutes of sitting on the sofa. Me and Decatur on the other hand, we both still wide awake. We ended up having a great conversation until almost 6am, when both of us fell asleep mid-comment! (Damn that sofa and the bean bag for being so frappin’ comfy!)

Sunday morning, we both woke up after only 3 solid hours of sleep around 9:45am. We continued the convo and then I left around 11:30-11:45. I had to get home to get ready to go see Antwan “Big Boi” Patton and the Atlanta Ballet’s “big.”

When I first heard about the collaboration between Big Boi and the Atlanta Ballet, I was intrigued. I decided that I was going to go to a performance, even if it was by myself. Overall, the performance was great. It was such a contrast between the classic ballet moves and the classic Outkast tracks. Big Boi performed “Morris Brown,” “Southernplayalisticadillackmuzik,” “Player’s Ball,” “Elevators,” “Bombs over Baghdad,” “Church,” “I Can’t Wait” with Sleepy Brown, “Rooster,” “Liberation,” “Kryptonite,” and a new song “Sir Luscious Leftfoot.” Janelle Monáe came out and performed “Sincerely Jane” — she was WONDERFUL! Other special guests in addition to Sleep Brown and Janelle Monáe included Scar, Joi Gilliam, Big Rube, Keisha Jackson, C-Bone, Rock D, Khujo Goodie, Kameron Davis, and Sam Christian.

As much as I and others love the performance, there were some critics. I was reading a review where someone was talking about the dancers’ lack of precision. And I agree there were moments when a few people could have been tighter on the choreography, but it wasn’t so loose to the point that it took away from a piece. Then there was the family that was sitting next to me. One of the daughters apparently studies dance with some of the members of the Atlanta Ballet and she was unimpressed that there wasn’t more fusion of hip hop and ballet. Personally, I liked the fact that it was classic ballet. I think I wouldn’t have been as impressed if the company members had attempted to bring hip hop dance into the mix. But that’s just my opinion. I really wish that the production ran longer or it was in more cities because I think a lot of people would’ve enjoyed seeing the performance.

Kudos to Big Boi, Lauri Stallings (the choreographer) and the Atlanta Ballet for a job well done!

I’ve got a problem  It’s a new problem, and I just realized that I have this problem

I have a habit of over-punctualization.  Especially “,“s and ““s.

I happened to be going through my inbox and reread a bunch of emails and instead of using a “.” I used “” — EVERY.TIME.

Like it’s crazy how much I use “” like it clearly takes two more “.“s than just using “.” in the first placesee there I go!

I know this was random, but I just realized I had this problem — I think it was blog-worthy…

Just a few of my favorites…ENJOY!

The movie is great on it’s own, but the fact that Johnny Depp looks so HOTT in it is an added bonus!! LOL

I can’t believe that I go home to DC next Friday…I have so much to do between now and then.

I need to stop bullshittin’ on a bunch of stuff…I hope I get the umph this weekend.

How come my coworker and I didn’t hear the fire alarm a little while ago? We see all these people coming back to the building like there was a fire drill and then hear “all clear in 2300″ over the loud speaker…wtf?

Blah…that pretty much describes how I’m feeling…and the rain and clouds aren’t helping.

Why the hell did both of the lights in my kitchen have to blow this morning?

I need to wash my hair this afternoon…I should’ve done it yesterday but I got lazy.

Lisa Shaw, Conya Doss, and A Tribe Called Quest are really helping me get through the day…it feels like I’ve been at work FOREVER!

I need a vacation…somewhere sunny with a nice ocean breeze would be nice…

I can’t wait ’til my day off next Friday!

I want to go see Little Brother and Wale next Thursday night, but I don’t know I’m going to be able to make that happen because I’ve got to pack and get my stuff together for my trip…

I lost my rhythm yesterday afternoon on my way home from work. As a black woman, that’s a little hard to admit. But it’s happened before…

From 1994 to 1998, I lost my rhythm too. It took for me to go to an HBCU to get it back. You see, I was attending a predominately white college preparatory school during that time. (I affectionately call those my “white years.”) Before high school, I was one of the best dancers that I knew…I swear, it’s like I got accepted into my high school and started dancing off beat…(I guess that’s what I get for making fun of those rhythmically challenged kids in elementary school.)

However, yesterday I had a relapse…it all started with Miley Cyrus’ “See You Again” (again Babs, who knew Hannah Montana could groove like that?!?) It all went downhill from there, thanks to 90’s on 9 on XM…

  • The Offspring “Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)”
  • Four Non Blondes “What’s Going On”
  • The Spin Doctors “Two Princes”
  • La Bouche “Sweet Dreams”

It had been a good 5 minutes of me doing “the lasso” before I realized I had lost it. I knew the only way for me to get it back was to turn to the uncut hip-hop station, and even that was almost not enough to bring me back to the Rhythm Nation.

Damn that catchy music from the 90s and those Catholic schoolgirls I went to high school with!

I’m a huge fan of knowing random ass fact that I can just spit out when the time is necessary, but after reading Apollocreed this morning, I felt like I needed to share the knowledge — I hope this helps the next time you’re in an elevator!

  • Tonka Toys gets it’s name from Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota (yeah, that’s the one that Prince told Apollonia she had to jump in during that scene in ‘Purple Rain.’)
  • The first movie theaters were called nickelodeons.
  • Chicha, an alcohol beverage which has been made for thousands of years in Central and South America, begins with people chewing grain and spitting into a vat. An enzyme in saliva changes starch in the grain to sugar, which then ferments. (Sounds yummy!)
  • It’s illegal to slurp soup in New Jersey.
  • Sharks apparently are the only animals that never get sick. As far as is known, they are immune to every known disease including cancer.
  • Reno, Nevada is west of Los Angeles, California. (Let that shit marinate…I’m still trippin’ off that one!)
  • All pet hamsters are descended from a single female wild golden hamster found with a litter of 12 young in Syria in 1930.
  • On average, 100 people choke to death on ball-point pens every year. (WTF?!?!)
  • In Reno, Nevada, it is illegal to lie down on the sidewalk.
  • A polar bear’s skin is black. It’s fur is not white, but actually clear.
  • The first toilet ever seen on television was on “Leave It To Beaver.”
  • There is no single cat called the panther. The name is commonly applied to the leopard, but it is also used to refer to the puma and the jaguar. A black panther is really a black leopard. (I don’t think that my HBCU alma mater knows this fact because we sho’ are the HBCU Panthers…)
  • Nutmeg is extremely poisonous if injected intravenously. (And who would just think to shoot up nutmeg???)
  • If you keep a golfish in a dark room, it will eventually turn white. (Am I the only one who wants to try this???)

It’s only the 8th of February and already I’m making good progress on my 101 things.  Ok, so I’ve only completed three of the things on my list so far, but I’ve got 13 things in the works, half of which will be completed by the end of March!

Woohoo!  Go me for accomplishing goals early in the game!

Recently I’ve been having some problems catching my 40 winks. Anyone who knows me knows that is never the case, but apparently I’ve got a lot on my mind…

  • I need a part-time job…ASAP
  • I have talk with my mom about some things…will it put a damper on next weekend?
  • Will I get a response from my father?
  • I need to order a transcript and start on my application.
  • What am I going to take with me to Ft. Lauderdale next week?
  • I hope that Cris and Pooh are going to be okay…
  • I should stop bullsh!ttin’ on everything…
  • Am I really that intimidating?

I think I’ve found a new way to center myself.  Try it for yourself.

I hope that you all had a safe and enjoyable evening last night.

It’s time for me to reveal my theme for 2008.  For the past few years, I’ve come up with a universal theme for life that I apply to everything I do and say.  This year’s theme came to me around 8am on December 31st, 2007 as I was watching Vh1Soul.

Life can bring us through many changes;
just don’t give up;
it’s gonna be alright.
People come and they go
it’s just the way that it goes
…”   - “It’s Alright” by Ledisi

My theme for 2008 is simply: It’s Alright.  I know what you’re thinking, that could mean anything.  And that’s precisely the point.

It’s alright for me to say no.

It’s alright for me to look out for me.

It’s alright if I can’t be everywhere for everyone all at once, I’m not supposed to.

It’s alright if things change.

It’s alright to just be and not think about what people are going to say.

It’s alright to disappear for a while and do what I need to do for me.

And so on and so forth…

I’m not hurting anyone by not following this mantra, but myself.  I have to allow myself to do what I want to do, everyone else is.  Anyone who takes offense to it, wasn’t a true friend in the first place and I didn’t need that person around bringing me down.

Peace and blessings to you and yours during this holiday season!
