I got this from brran:

Here’s a music meme to reflect how eclectic your music collection might be.

Put your music library in alphabetical order by song, then take the first song for each letter of the alphabet. No repeat artists. Tag five people then let them know they’ve been tagged to do the meme themselves.

Hmm…I’m only gonna tag 4 people: Eb, TaY, She Needs and Maxie

Last night, I hung out with Brran and Coop at Sugarhill for Tuesday Night Jam. TNJ is a weekly event, but this week was a special edition celebrating the release of Anthony David’s cd Acey Ducey and Hidden Beach Recordings’ Unwrapped Vol. 5: The Collipark Café Sessions. The evening started off (slowly) with a live broadcast on Classic Soul 102.5 (It started off so slow, that my homegirl Jay left early.) Anthony David performed a couple of tracks with his acoustic guitar for the radio audience, so at least Jay got some entertainment before she left.

Soon after the broadcast ended, the party got started. They had the BET Awards playing on the big screen but they had the sound off because DJ Salah Anase was spinnin’ the exclusive tracks to keep everyone hype. Around 11pm, the host Joi headed to the stage and did her version of The Eurhythmic’s “Sweet Dreams” — and killed it! That chick is so talented but so under-rated. She got the crowd warmed up, but the next performance set the roof on fiyah! (That sounded a little corny, but oh well…)

Mike Phillips and the Hidden Beach All Stars hit the stage to perform a few tracks of the new album. the did Plies and T-Pain’s “Shawty” (Mike Phillips even had the instrument to recreate the talk box effect!), Snoop Dogg’s “Sensual Seduction,” DJ Unk’s “Walk It Out,” and Hurricane Chris’ “Ay Bay Bay.” It was so cool to hear hip-hop tracks broken down in such a funky way. I have the first 3 volumes of Unwrapped, and will definitely have to pick up Volume 5.

After the Hidden Beach All-Stars did their thing, Anthony David came out to perform a few songs, this time with the house band. Killed it! I’m definitely going to have to get his album this weekend. Joi came back to the stage and did a couple more tracks, including Coop’s jam “Lick.” LMAO

The band took a break and Salah Anase switched to some old school jams that got the crowd movin’. That was pure entertainment because we started dancing at our table and “battling” these ladies at the table next to us…all while some drunk lady (who pulled up a chair at our table) offered us drinks, tried talking with us and kept leaving her coat in our care while she made her way through the crowd. During the break, I looked at the bar, and saw a woman in some skinny jeans, a fab bag and some boots working it…little did I know, that woman was a man! I told Coop to turn around to see what I was seeing, at first glance, she too thought it was a woman and turned back around. I said “look again” and she realized it was a man sashayin’ around the club in heels, skinny jeans and a purse. I think Brran was a little traumatized, but we made it our mission to get a picture of “her.” Only in Atlanta, will you see this:

I had a blast with the two of them, that is, until D’Maestro hit the stage. He was like a super-sized Cee-Lo Green. We were scared and when he “hit” that last high note, we decided it was time to leave. I can’t wait ’til the next time we hang!

Ok, so I didn’t really see the Awards in it’s entirety because I was out with Coop and Brran….BUT the awards were playing on the big screen, just with no sound.

2 performances had me and every other woman feeling a little hot and bothered…

Can I say I was NOT prepared for this performance from Chris Brown and Ciara??? You all know that CB has a little place in my “cougar” heart…but I.WAS.NOT.READY! (I love how they showed Rihanna and she did not look impressed…)

The other performance was the Al Green tribute with Maxwell!

GULAWDHAVMERCY!!!!

Where has Maxwell been for the last 6 years of my life?!? I missed him and I’m hoping that his appearance means that he’s coming back to his adoring public soon! (I haven’t found a video clip of this performance yet…)

I will definitely catch the rerun of the awards show, and I’m sure to have more commentary by this weekend! If you saw the awards show, what did you think?

This is my favorite joint right now!

I’ve never really thought Lloyd was too attractive but that look he gives around 2:03 *faints* Gulawdhavmercy!

…go out and pick up the new N.E.R.D. album Seeing Sounds.  It’s SICK!  It’s just the kind of album to listen to while you are driving around on a nice sunny day and lose your rhythm to (in a good way, of course lol!)

My favorite tracks: “Anti Matter,” “Spaz,” “Windows,” “Yeah You,” and of course “Everybody Nose.”  And while you’re at it, pick up N.E.R.D.’s first two albums In Search Of… and Fly or Die!

Umm, so I don’t know who I would tag….so I won’t tag anyone this time!

This video has a special place in my heart…1) the video was filmed at my alma matter 2) I met B-Rock and the Bizz and they told me I looked like some girl named Michelle from Decatur (at the time I had NO idea where Decatur was…now I do and I’m scared that I look like some chick from there LMAO):

I saw this a while ago, but I felt the need to post it because it’s so freakin’ funny!

Janet’s FINALLY going on tour! I cannot wait until they release the tour schedule!

Yo, for real, the Native Tongues had to be one of the illest crews of MCs back in the day. The killed hip hop in the 90s!  The founding members were The Jungle Brothers, Kool DJ Red Alert, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Prince Paul. Other members included Queen Latifah, Monie Love, Chi Ali, Black Sheep, and Leaders of the New School. Here are some throwbacks! Enjoy!

Plus this is my favorite Biggie videos!

Apparently I do. And so do about 13,000 metro Atlantans. Last night, I went to the Atlanta stop on the Glow in The Dark Tour. I took my fresh-21 year old friend Alejandro. (He was super excited because it was his first concert and he’s from Chicago just like Lupe and Kanye!)

It wasn’t my first time seeing Kanye West or Lupe Fiasco in concert, but it was my first time seeing Kanye, Lupe Fiasco and N.E.R.D. all in one night. All I can say is the show was high-energy from start to finish (though I totally missed Rihanna’s set — I was talking with my homeboy Del outside AND I could’ve done without her on the tour anyways…) To my surprise, the show started on time, early even. Lupe Fiasco opened up the show and killed it! He definitely started the night off with a bang. Next was N.E.R.D. — I LOVE them and I’ve never seen them in concert before. To my surprise and delight, right in the middle of “Rockstar” they brought a crew of guys out on stage to wild out…and who was the first guy that I noticed??? None other than my #1 HYT — CHRIS BROWN!!!!! :-D I turned into a groupie for a moment, like in retrospect I should’ve been a tainch embarrassed…dah well! (But CB’s appearance pretty much confirms that he and Rihanna are a couple, why else would he just be backstage?!?!)

Like I said I totally missed Rihanna’s set, but I feel like it was rather short because me and Del started talking when she first came on stage, then all of a sudden we looked up and she was done. It was time to go back in the arena to get ready for Kanye, when me and Alejandro heard a bunch of screaming. Who do we see? First, we saw Quincy Jones and Mary J. Blige. More pandemonium ensues — for Chris Brown :-D and Bow Wow and Omarion who are walking through the crowd to get to the VIP section to watch Kanye’s performance. As we start scanning the crowd, we also notice Jermaine Dupri, Cee-Lo and Dallas Austin.

Kanye came out and killed it! Even though Kanye is an egotistical divo, you can’t knock the brotha’s talent. It was just him on the stage for about an hour and a half…that is until Lupe came out to perform “Touch the Sky” and bust his ASS! (I really tried not to laugh, but it was just too funny because I heard him hit the floor and he just kinda laid there for a hot minute. But he got right back on up and kept going, so kudos to you Lupe for acting like nothing happened!) All in all it was a GREAT show, and well worth the drive to the Gwinnett Arena especially because there wasn’t a bad seat in the house! If the Glow in The Dark Tour comes to your city, please try to get some tickets to check the show…besides you never know who will be in the crowd!

Right, so one mix for you guys wasn’t enough! There were just too many songs that I wanted to include in Tiff’s CD Swap, so I decided to add another one for you to check out. This one is also a Throwback mix, but it’s dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of Yo! MTV Raps!

  • Biz Markie - Just A Friend
  • Kid ‘N’ Play - Rollin’ With Kid ‘N’ Play
  • Queen Latifah - Fly Girl
  • Boogie Down Productions - Criminal Minded
  • Raekwon - Ice Cream
  • LL Cool J - Around the Way Girl
  • De La Soul - Buddy
  • Notorious B.I.G. - Unbelievable
  • Gang Star - Dwyck
  • Slick Rick - Lodi Dodi
  • Monie Love - Monie In The Middle
  • The Fugees - Nappy Heads (Remix)
  • Kwame - Only You
  • Salt-N-Pepa -Push It
  • Black Sheep - The Choice Is Yours
  • Heavy D - The Overweight Lover’s In The House

Enjoy!

So Tiff has this thing that she’s been doing since September 2007, it’s called the Great American CD Swap. Basically a theme is picked and each participant creates a mix based on the theme. The mix is then uploaded and a link is posted on the “deejay’s” blog and shared with the masses.

The Spring 2008 Invitational had four themes to choose from:

  • There Will Be Spring — a mix to celebrate the changing of the seasons
  • Throwbacks — your favorite, cheesiest hits of the 80s and 90s
  • Memories Frozen in Time — songs that “strike a chord with you”
  • Back to the Future — what songs will be played as classics in 30 years?

I chose Throwbacks. It was a lot harder that I thought it would be. All of these songs came to mind, but I had to pick only 18 of them. However, as I started putting my mix together, I realized that all of the songs that I picked were also Memories Frozen in Time for me. These songs remind me of roller skating at Jelleff’s Boys and Girls Club, summers at St. Alban’s camp, birthdays, my favorite movies, elementary school and my carpool girls during my senior year in high school.

Anyhoo, here’s my list:

  1. Bobby Brown - Every Little Step
  2. Paula Abdul - Straight Up
  3. The B-52’s - Love Shack
  4. Dee Lite - Groove Is In The Heart
  5. M.C. Hammer - U Can’t Touch This
  6. New Kids On The Block - Step By Step
  7. Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy
  8. C&C Music Factory - Gonna Make You Sweat
  9. Wham - Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go
  10. Wilson Phillips - Hold On
  11. Ready For The World - Oh Sheila
  12. Milli Vanilli - Girl You Know It’s True
  13. Peter Cetera - Glory Of Love
  14. The Bangles - Walk Like An Egyptian
  15. Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
  16. The Culture Club - Karma Cameleon
  17. Pretty Poison - Catch Me I’m Falling
  18. Vanessa Williams - The Right Stuff

Download the mix here. Enjoy!

How many times did I bust my ass trying to lean forward like MJ???

I busted my ass trying to walk off the chair, too!

Who didn’t know the choreography to this video???

I saw this at Jay Midnyte’s.  I couldn’t help but repost this.

Friends
How many of us have them?
Friends
Ones we can depend on
Friends
How many of us have them?
Friends
Before we go any further, lets be
Friends

Is a word we use everyday
Most the time we use it in the wrong way
Now you can look the word up, again and again
But the dictionary doesnt know the meaning of friends

And if you ask me, you know, I couldnt be much help
Because A friend is somebody you judge for yourself
Some are ok, and they treat you real cool
But some mistake kindness for bein a fool

We like to be with some, because they’re funny
Others come around when they need some money
Some you grew up with, around the way
And you’re still real close too this very day

Homeboys through the Summer, Winter, Spring and Fall
And then there’s some we wish we never knew at all
And this list goes on, again and again
But these are the people that we call friends…

Friends
How many of us have them?
Friends
Ones we can depend on
Friends
How many of us have them?
Friends
Before we go any further, lets be
Friends

“Friends” by Whodini

I just had a really great evening.

I treated myself to the Alice Smith concert at Vinyl. It was the best concert for $12! I love venues like Vinyl. Small and intimate, where you are right there in front of the artist. You vibin’ off of them, and they are feeling your energy right back.

She was AWESOME! Alice had been to Atlanta a few times before, but I was never able to make it, so I was determined to be there tonight. It was just me, myself and Alice! LOL She performed for about an hour. Before tonight, my favorite Alice Smith song was ‘Dream’…after her show, it’s ‘Love Endeavor.’ It was the last song she did and she KILLED IT!

| View Show | Create Your Own

Oh…and she was killin’ it in these Christian Louboutin’s!

“I love the gays!”

The quote of the night. As soon as they announced who was coming to the stage, a guy that was standing to the right of me shouted it at the top of his lungs. I knew I was in for something quite interesting.

Last night I went to Tuesday Night Jam and Sugarhill in the Underground. It was a special celebration for the album release (finally) of ATL’s own Algebra Blessett. Algebra (with her “sangin’ ass”) performed some songs off the album and killed it, followed by Joi, who had us feeling all psychedelic like we were on a bad acid trip. After a short intermission, Joi came to the stage and introduced Rahbi…

rahbimusic.jpg

I have heard of Rahbi before, but I had never seen him perform. My homegirl Cris and I saw him walking around Sugarhill looking FABULOUS earlier in the night, and when he walked by us I proceeded to let him know that he was fabulous by yelling “WORK!” He proceed to hand me a flyer promoting his album above.

Glam soul is here…This man came out on stage vogueing and sashaying. He performed his rendition of “Sweet Dreams” by The Eurythmics…I swear that song will never be the same. Once I got past all of the theatrics that are Rahbi, I realized he was super talented. He performed a couple of songs, then turned the mic back over to Algebra, but not before leaving us with:

“I am the mutha fukkin’ shit!” Yes, Rahbi, you are…and so am I!

All in all, it was a fun night and good to hang out with my homegirl. I got to hear some great music and check out a new artist.

I’ll definitely be picking these up:

200px-disciplinehqcover.jpg

Janet Jackson - Discipline — Janet, can we get a tour, please????

200px-erykah_badu_-_new_amerykah.jpg

Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part One (4th World War) — I love Erykah Badu!

l_1751ba5709edeab4ba305703eed741ea.jpg

Algebra Blessett - Purpose — I’ve saw her open for Common a few years ago, and I’ve been waiting for her album to drop ever since…

I mean seriously…there’s got to be something in the water in the UK because some of the hottest artists these days are from over there! Check these ladies out:

Leona Lewis

I’m super excited that Thriller is being released on February 11th to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of it’s original release…here’s a snippet of some of the bonus material from the cd.

And of course I had to put up one of the greatest videos EVER — Thriller. I remember the first time I saw it…I was at one of my friend’s houses and a bunch of us were sitting in her den watching the TV intently. No one was making a sound because we were all in awe of what we were seeing. All of a sudden, her father runs in the room, growling with a wolf mask on…we were scared shitless!!! Even after her father traumatizing us, we wanted to watch the video over and over again because it was that great….
