the soundtrack of my life…

Archive for November 2008

On this day of thanks, I can’t help but to look at my life in the last year and think about ALL of the wonderful things that I’m thankful for this year.

  • I’m thankful for my mom.  As much drama as I give (and have given) her, she still bends over backwards to give me the world.  I wish that I had the means to somehow show how much I appreciate EVERYTHING she’s done for me and pay her back for all of the sacrifices that she’s made for me.
  • I’m thankful that my father replied to my letter back in February.  Even though I haven’t known him long, it’s wonderful to know that we are working on building a relationship.  For the first time in my life, I’ll have the opportunity to spend Christmas with him and my half-brothers.
  • I’m thankful for a job that allows me to have a car, pay my bills, and fund extra-curricular activities.
  • I’m thankful to have such great group of close friends: Decatur, Cris, KRF, Erika Kane, Sasha, Shanel, Lawrence,  B. Lanier, Tiffany, Jay, Dawn, Karl, Christina, Tishana…
  • I’m thankful for all of my “kids”: Jordan, David, Malachi, Nichelle, Hope, Tandi, Malayia, Paul…
  • I’m thankful for my wonderful group of sisterfriends: Babs, Sunfresh, Keyalus, CaliSlim, KKAve, Cathy, CoCo…
  • I’m thankful for my blogger fam, even though I don’t personally know most of you, I feel like I do: Coop, Brran, Sane, Odara, Eb, 1/3, The Alleged Ringleader, Apollocreed…

Anyone else that I may have forgot, blame it on my mind and not my heart.  I hope you all have a blessed day where ever you are!

I originally saw this over at Eb’s spot, Renaissance Black Woman, then I saw it again at Brran’s, The Black Lounge, so I finally decided to give into the meme and do it myself!

1. Song that makes you dance, no matter what:

“Gypsy Woman” by Crystal Waters, it’s the song that no matter when it’s played makes me breakout in my “gay dance” and I start vogueing and spinning…imagine that! LMAO

2. Song you’d use to tell someone you love them:

“This Is My Promise” by The Temptations, my uncle put me onto this song. It’s on their Phoenix Rising album.  One time I went to visit my aunt and uncle in St. Louis, my uncle started serenading my aunt so everytime I hear it I think about the love they have for each other after almost 50 years.

3. Song that has made you sit down and analyze the lyrics:

“The 6th Sense” by Common

4. Song you like that a two-year old would like:

“ABC” by The Jackson 5, brran I’ve got to agree with you on that one!

5. Song that gives you an energy boost:

“Spazz” or “Anti-Matter” by N.E.R.D, really the whole Seeing Sounds album makes me want to lose my rhythm and wild out (in a good way, of course!) Like I always want to just go and have fun when I hear those songs, no matter what my mood or energy level was before hearing them.

6. A song you and your grandparents would like:

“My Girl” by The Temptations, it was one of my grandma’s favorite songs.

7. Song you really liked when you were in high school that you still like now:

“Crush On You” by Lil Kim, I always think of my girls from high school.  When the song came out, they decided to don colored wig just like Kim did in the video and head to our Black Women’s Society party.  There was a lot of drama behind those wigs, and to this day we still laugh about how silly they looked!

8. A sad song that would be in the soundtrack of the movie about your life:

“Lonely’s the Only Company” by Maxwell or “So Alone” by Men At Large

9. Peppy song that would start the opening credits in the movie of your life:

“Move On Up” by Cutis Mayfield, I love this song and something about it has always made me think about the opening credits of a movie or TV show.

10. A good song from a genre of music that no one would guess you liked:

“Toxicity” by System of a Down

11. Song you think should have been playing when you were born:

“September” by Earth, Wind & Fire

12. Favorite duet artists:

I’m gonna have to say Rick James and Teena Marie.

13. A favorite song you completely disagree with:

“Mary Jane” by Rick James, I don’t do narcotics and never have, but, clearly, Rick James was in a long relationship with narcotics of ALL forms!

14. Song that you like despite the fact that your IQ level drops several points every time you listen to it:

“Gucci Bandana” by Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy & Shawty Lo…just look at who’s on the track, that should explain why my IQ level drops LMAO

15. Smoothe song for relaxing:

“Seguranca (Security)” by Maxwell or “You Will Rise” by Sweetback

16. A song you would send to someone you can’t stand:

Either “B.A.N” by David Banner or “F*ck Off” by Tony Matterhorn or “Yahh B!tch” by Soulja Boy…is it bad that I could keep going??? LMAO

17. Favorite political track (Or song with a message):

“Freedom” (The R&B version) from The Black Panther Soundtrack

18. Favorite track from a band considered a “super group”:

“I Thought She Knew” by *NSYNC, it was the last song on their No Strings Attached album and, by far, was my favorite song on that whole album because it was a cappella and displayed their true talent.

19. A song that makes you reminisce about good times with a family member:

“Crush on You” by The Jets, it reminds me of when my cousin used to take me to my basketball games in elementary school.  She drove a red Toyota Celica and she would pop that tape in and we’d be jammin’! LOL OR “Your Sweetness” by The Good Girls, my cousins and I used to make up dance routines to it back in the day!

20. Favorite song from a soundtrack:

Either “Car Wash” from Car Wash, “Freedom” (The R&B version) from The Black Panther Soundtrack or “U Will Know” by Black Men United from Jason’s Lyric

21. Your favorite song(s) RIGHT now:

All of Maxwell’s albums/songs – since seeing him live a couple of weeks ago, I can’t seem to get enough of the man; “Drank in my Cup” by Electrik Red – gets me hella crunk, no matter what time of the day it is; “Arab Money” by Busta Rhymes – I’m still trying to figure out if there are real words being said during the “Arab” part; the new Ludacris and Kanye albums – CRAZY!

It’s been a hot minute since I updated you wonderful people on what music I’m ridin’ to in my car:

  • Busta Rhymes – “Arab Money”
  • Muffy – “Gone Hate”
  • I-20 – “Really Like Her” featuring Ludacris & Rocko
  • Gucci Mane – “Shopaholic” featuring Bobby Valentino & Nikki Minaj

What’s up my people?  I know I’ve been posting rather sporadically recently but, I’ve been extra busy in the last month or so.  Hopefully after next week, things will slow down a bit.  But in the meantime, here are some things that have been on my mind:

So this past weekend I was in Miami and I had two epiphanies.  Yes, in Miami.  Random, I know.  The first epiphany was that I really don’t have any vices.  That is, except for shopping.  I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I don’t gamble, I’m not into any street pharmaceuticals.  Nothing.  It’s not a bad thing, because I guess that means I don’t have an addictive personality.  Just simply something I realized.  The second epiphany was that, compared to most, I’ve lived a pretty drama-free life.  I’ve never had any trials or tribulations that have helped to shape the person that I am today.   I’ve always lived vicariously through other people.  Again, it’s not a bad thing, but there are times that I feel like I’m naive to to situations because I never experienced it first hand.

Why did someone comment on one of my posts promoting his MySpace page?  Dude, are you serious right now?

I have certain people in my life that I wish I could give them the world.  I hate to see them upset or stressed about something.  And I wish that I could just blink a couple of times and fix all of their problems.  Even when they are doing their best to be a good person, things go wrong and, not little things.  I find myself going out of my way to try to make life easier for them when I can…

Why won’t Juelz Santana go to a dentist to get his teeth fixed?  He’s an attractive brother, but those teeth take away from his smile…

I just bought a plane ticket to go home to DC for President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration.  I can’t wait.  And I sent in requests for tickets to my local congressman and senators.  I hope I get a ticket or two from somewhere *Fingers crossed* Even if I don’t, my friends and I are determined to be down on the National Mall in the nosebleed section on January 20, 2009…

What do you mean there are only two weeks until Thanksgiving?!?!  Where has the time gone?  That means that there is just over a month until Christmas!  EEK!!  I guess I should start thinking about Christmas cards…

Am I the only one who wonders what Michael Jackson would look like had he not bleached his skin and went crazy with the plastic surgery?

I really hate it when people don’t know when to let a point go.  You know how you and a group of friends will be in conversation and a particular topic will get one person all riled up and whatnot, and the just can’t seem to let the convo go, no matter how long it’s been over?  That really irks the hell out of me!

Umm…I think that’s it for now…
